Spot the Difference Games Online

Spot the difference: two pictures that look the same, but aren’t. Find every change between them, then tap it in either picture to ring it. Our free online spot the difference game has 36 of our own pictures (a garden, the seaside and a snowy day) with 5 differences for young children, 7, or 10 for a harder look. Things go missing, change colour, turn the other way, grow bigger or appear from nowhere. There is no time limit and Hint always helps; “Large pictures” puts one big picture above the other with 5 differences, which suits seniors and anyone on a phone. No download or sign-up.

How to play spot the difference

  1. Look at the two pictures. They are the same scene, but the second one has some changes.
  2. When you see a difference, tap it (or click it) in either picture. A ring goes round it in both pictures.
  3. Find them all to win. Tapping the wrong place does no harm: there is no time limit and nothing to lose.
  4. Choose 5 differences (easiest), 7 or 10. “Large pictures” shows one big picture above the other, with 5 differences.
  5. Stuck? “Hint” draws a dashed circle round a part of the picture where a difference is.
  6. Keyboard: Tab to the second picture, move the box with the arrow keys, and press Enter to check that spot. H gives a hint.

Spot the difference tips and strategy

    • Scan in strips: across the top of both pictures, then the middle, then the bottom.
    • Compare one thing at a time (the house, then the tree, then the sky) instead of the whole picture.
    • Changes are of a few kinds: something gone, a new colour, turned round, bigger, a detail missing, or something added.
    • A tap in the wrong place costs nothing, so tap whatever looks different.

    Questions

What kinds of differences are there?

Something is missing, something has changed colour, a picture is turned the other way, something is bigger, something new has been added, or a detail (like a door or the sun’s rays) has gone. Each change is far enough from the others that you can tell them apart.

Is it good for seniors or people with dementia?

Many carers use spot the difference as a calm, shared activity. Choose “Large pictures” for one big picture above the other with 5 clear differences, press “Larger print” for bigger buttons, and use Hint whenever you like. There is no clock to beat. It is a pastime, not a medical treatment.

    What age is it for?

Children from about 4 can find 5 differences, especially with a grown-up pointing. From 6 most children enjoy 7, and 10 differences is a good look for older children and adults.

Where do the pictures come from?

They are our own: the animals, trees, houses and toys are the same drawings as our memory match game and colour by number pages, arranged into a new scene for each picture. A new picture comes up every day.

    Is it safe for children?

Yes. There is no chat, no account, no in-game purchases and no links to other sites. Adverts on the page are non-personalised and sit below the game, away from where children tap.

Is it free? Do I need to sign up or download anything?

It is free and plays in your web browser on a computer, tablet or phone. There is nothing to download and no account. Your stats are kept in this browser only. A few adverts on the page, kept well away from the game, pay for the site.
