Jigsaw Puzzles for Seniors: Free Online, Large Pieces
Free jigsaw puzzles for seniors that play in your web browser, with no download, no sign-up and no time limit. The pictures are our own bright, simple drawings (animals, toys, food, seasons and holidays), and the pieces are large: this page starts on 25 pieces, and you can choose 9 or 16 for bigger pieces still, or 36 and 64 for a challenge. Pieces click into place as soon as they are close, a faint picture on the board shows where everything goes, and a “Larger print” button makes the buttons bigger. There is a new picture every day.

How to play
- Pick a picture (or play today’s picture) and how many pieces you want.
- Drag a piece onto the board. When it is in the right place it clicks in and stays.
- Start with the corners and the edges: their straight sides go on the outside. The faint picture on the board shows where things go; turn it off with “Faint picture” for a harder puzzle.
- Keyboard: Tab to a piece and press Enter to pick it up, move it with the arrow keys, Enter to put it down, Escape to put it back.
Who it’s for: Seniors, carers and activity coordinators; also anyone who likes a calm puzzle. Sound is off unless you turn it on, there is no time limit, and “Pause” stops the clock.

Jigsaw puzzles for seniors tips and strategy
- Start with 16 or 25 pieces with the faint picture on: big pieces, a clear guide, and a puzzle you can finish in one sitting.
- Press “Larger print” for bigger buttons, and turn a tablet sideways for the most room.
- Corners and edges first, then sort the rest by colour.
- Pieces click into place when they are close, so there is no need to line them up exactly.
- For a group, put today’s picture on a big screen and let people take turns choosing where a piece goes.
Prefer a puzzle on paper?
Our seniors and care homes page has large print word searches, large print sudoku and bold, easy colouring pages that photocopy well for a group. Every jigsaw picture is also a colour by number page to print.
Questions
How many pieces should I choose?
16 or 25 pieces suit most people: big pieces and a puzzle you finish in ten to twenty minutes. 9 pieces is a good choice for someone with poor eyesight or shaky hands, or a person living with dementia doing it with a carer. 36 and 64 pieces are for a longer puzzle on a bigger screen.
Is it suitable for someone with dementia?
Many carers use simple jigsaws as a calm, shared activity. Choose 4 or 9 pieces with the faint picture on, and do it together, naming what is on each piece. There is no time limit and nothing is lost by a wrong move. It is a pastime, not a medical treatment.
Do the pieces need to be lined up exactly?
No. A piece clicks into place when you drop it close to the right spot, and it stays there. Pieces never need turning round.
Can I play on a tablet?
Yes. Drag pieces with a finger; turn the tablet sideways for the most room. It also works with a mouse, or the keyboard alone.
Is it free? Do I need to sign up or download anything?
It is free and plays in your web browser on a computer, tablet or phone. There is nothing to download and no account. Your stats are kept in this browser only. A few adverts on the page, kept well away from the game, pay for the site.
