Spider Solitaire 4 Suits: Free Online

Spider solitaire with 4 suits is the hardest level of Spider: two full packs, ten columns, and runs from King down to Ace that only move together when they are all one suit. Ours is free, plays in your browser with no download or sign-up, starts on 4 suits, and has large cards, a “Larger print” button and unlimited Undo and Hint. Many random 4-suit deals can’t be won at all, so we only offer deals our solver program has won: every game here can be won, though it may take a few undos.

How to play spider solitaire 4 suits

  1. Clear the table by building eight runs, each from King down to Ace in one suit. A finished run leaves the table by itself.
  2. Put a card on any card one higher, whatever its suit: a 6 on any 7. Any card or run can go in an empty column.
  3. Only a run of one suit, each card one lower, moves together. Mixed suits have to be moved one part at a time, so build in one suit when you can.
  4. Tap the stock (top left) to deal one more card onto every column. You can only deal when no column is empty. There are five deals in the stock.
  5. Tap a card (or a run) to select it, then tap the column to put it on. Tap it again, or double-click it, to send it to the best place. You can also drag cards.
  6. Keyboard: arrow keys move between the stock and the columns, Enter picks up the bottom card (Up arrow adds more cards of the run), Enter on another column puts it there, Enter twice sends it to the best place, U undoes, Escape cancels.

Who it’s for: Grown-ups and seniors; 1 suit is a good start for anyone new to it. Sound is off unless you turn it on, there is no time limit, and “Pause” stops the clock.

Spider solitaire 4 suits tips and strategy

    • Patience wins 4-suit Spider. With four suits, almost every move you make at first will build a mixed run; aim to uncover cards rather than to finish runs.
    • Two empty columns are worth more than anything else on the table. Spend your early moves clearing short columns.
    • Keep any same-suit run together and build on it; break up a mixed run only when it frees a face-down card.
    • Before dealing a new row, put the runs you most want to keep at the bottom of a column, not halfway up where the new cards will bury them.
    • Undo is unlimited: when a deal from the stock turns out badly, undo it, rearrange, and deal again.

    Questions

    Is 4-suit Spider really winnable?

Some 4-suit deals are impossible, so we never give you one of those: every deal on this page has been won by our solver program. It is still the hardest Spider, and good players win by using Undo to explore.

What is the best strategy for 4 suits?

Uncover face-down cards before anything else, clear one or two columns early, keep same-suit runs together, and finish your useful moves before dealing from the stock. More in the tips below.

Why are 4 suits so much harder than 1 or 2?

With four suits most cards you can place create a mixed run, and a mixed run can’t move as one group. That leaves fewer free moves and makes empty columns much more valuable.

Can I switch to an easier level?

Yes: use the Suits menu above the game, or play 2-suit Spider or 1-suit Spider.

Is it free? Do I need to sign up or download anything?

It is free and plays in your web browser on a computer, tablet or phone. There is nothing to download and no account. Your stats are kept in this browser only. A few adverts on the page, kept well away from the game, pay for the site.
