Flash Cards Online: Free ABC, Numbers and Maths

Free flash cards to practise online, with no sign-up and no download: ABC letters (capitals, small letters and beginning sounds with pictures), numbers 0 to 20 with ten frames, number words, numbers to 100, addition to 10, subtraction within 10, every times table from 0 to 12 and all the multiplication facts mixed up, 22 decks and 599 cards in all. Flip a card, say the answer and mark whether you knew it, or type the answer in. Cards you miss come back later in the round, and the game remembers which cards you know (right on three different days), so you can practise just the ones still being learned. There is no clock on show and nothing to lose. Every deck matches one of our free printable flash card sets, to print double-sided.

How to play flash cards

  1. Choose the cards (letters, numbers, adding, taking away or a times table), how many in a round, and how to play: “Flip and check” or “Type the answer”.
  2. Flip and check: look at the card and say the answer out loud. Tap the card (or press Space) to turn it over. Then press “I knew it” or “Not yet”.
  3. Type the answer: type the number or letter and press Check (or Enter). If it’s not right, you see the answer, and the card comes back later.
  4. A card you mark “Not yet” comes back a few cards later, up to twice. At the end you see the cards to practise again.
  5. A card counts as known once you get it right on three different days. Choose “Cards I’m still learning” to practise only those.
  6. Keyboard: Space or Enter flips, K or the right arrow means “I knew it”, N or the left arrow means “Not yet”.

Who it’s for: Toddlers and preschoolers with a grown-up (letters, numbers), children 5 to 10 (maths facts), and anyone brushing up their times tables. Sound is off unless you turn it on, there is no time limit, and “Pause” stops the clock.

    Flash cards tips and strategy

    • Short and often: one round of 10 cards a day does more than 100 cards once a week.
    • Say every answer out loud before you flip, even when playing alone: saying it helps it stick.
    • For toddlers, a grown-up reads the card and the child taps “I knew it”: it is a game, not a test.
    • Stuck on a times table? Play that table’s deck in “Type the answer”, then the mixed deck once it feels easy.
    • Use “Cards I’m still learning” after a few days, so practice time goes on the cards that need it.

Every deck is also a free printable set with the answers on the back: printable flash cards (ABC, numbers, addition, subtraction, emotions, shapes and colors) and multiplication flash cards 0 to 12. More reading practice: sight word flash cards.

    Questions

    Which flash cards are there?

Letters A to Z as capitals, as small letters and as beginning-sound pictures; numbers 0 to 20 with ten frames; number words zero to twenty; numbers 1 to 100; addition with sums to 10 (66 cards); subtraction within 10 (66 cards); each times table from 0 to 12; and all 78 multiplication facts from 1 × 1 to 12 × 12 mixed up.

    What age is it for?

The letter and number decks suit children from about 2 or 3 playing with a grown-up who reads the card out and lets the child answer and tap. Addition and subtraction suit ages 5 to 7, and the times tables ages 7 to 10. Grown-ups use the mixed times tables to brush up too.

Is there a time limit or a score to beat?

No. There is no clock on show and no lives. Each round ends with how many cards you knew first time and a short list to practise again. Practising a few minutes every day works better than long sessions.

How does it remember which cards I know?

In this browser on this device only (local storage), with nothing sent to us. A card is “known” after three right answers on three different days; you can practise only the cards still being learned, or all of them.

Can I print these flash cards?

Yes. Every deck has a free printable set to print double-sided with the answers on the back: ABC flash cards, number cards 0 to 20, addition flash cards and multiplication flash cards, and more on all flash cards.

    Is it safe for children?

Yes. There is no chat, no account, no in-game purchases and no links out of the game. Adverts on the page are non-personalised and sit below the game, away from where children tap.

Is it free? Do I need to sign up or download anything?

It is free and plays in your web browser on a computer, tablet or phone. There is nothing to download and no account. Which cards you know is kept in this browser only. A few adverts on the page, kept well away from the game, pay for the site.
